Bio:

Eoin Rothschild was a precocious lad from a young age. Having been raised in a family of noble descent, he attended a wide range of private schools throughout his youth. Eoin was handsome, charismatic, and, overall, well liked by his teachers and classmates; however, his obstinate nature made him quick to take offense. This often resulted in him challenging a great many of his peers and professors to a gentleman’s duel (to the pain, or to the death). Luckily, dueling was something Eoin excelled at. His father had fancied himself, in his lifetime, something of a duelist and, while otherwise feeling disconnected from his father since his mother’s death when he was a young lad, Eoin found that he inherited this passion for swordplay. Unluckily, his quick wit and his quick temper made it so that he had to change schools often—making it hard to both make and keep friends as well as keep up with his studies. This was compounded by the fact that Eoin chafed against the strict rules imposed upon him by his professors and headmasters as well as the natural feeling of boredom he had in topics that did not interest him.

Sick of the constant letters of expulsion and reprimands, Eoin’s father sent him to the last school that would take him—a whole ocean and continent away from his home. This decision was not made on good terms and it deepened the rift between father and son. Nonetheless, Eoin’s father bought him passage on a ship that would take him near his destination and arranged for one of his acquaintances to take him to the school from there. On his journey towards the Institution of Learnings Both Physickale and Metaphysickale, Eoin took his sword training into his own hands—focusing on improving his natural agility and acrobatics as well as expanding on the strict rules of dueling that his father had taught him. Over the month at sea, he made friends with the sailors and they trained him in the use of ropes, and spoke widely on their knowledge of the inner workings of women—a subject in which Eoin was most interested though not at all skilled (after all, Eoin had spent most of his time sequestered at learning institutions where women were not allowed). Arriving on the border of his new school, Eoin realized he would miss the travelling and the feeling of adventure that came with it. He began to think of nothing but leaving the institution and going off on his own; however, the school had received a letter from his father of his previous record and made sure he could not leave until his studies were finished.

At first, Eoin was disinterested in his studies but, as he knew he must complete them to leave the school, he worked hard enough at them that he would pass. This did not stop him from pulling witty, yet ultimately shallow, pranks and petty crimes against his fellow students and professors. It was not until Eoin was nearing his final years at the institution that he discovered a love he had not anticipated—that of the study of archaic artifacts and, with it, a deep appreciation of the masterfully created forgeries and replicas he often encountered. The more he learned about these fakes, the more he became enthralled with the skill it takes to produce them. He began to focus more on this class than any of the others—letting his grades falter to an irreparable state. He practiced this skill by pulling more and more complex pranks against his peers—finally culminating in his final act at the Institution. He snuck in to the headmaster’s office and stole his file of records from the man’s desk. Within, it contained the letter from his father to the school and an official copy of his dismal transcripts—excepting the high grade in Archaic’ology. Eoin took these documents and, using his father’s handwriting as an example, wrote a letter to the headmaster in which it stated his father’s desire for Eoin to leave the school and return home. Afterwards, he replicated his official transcript and forged a certificate of graduation from the Institute. He mailed the certificate and the transcript to his father and, making sure to replicate the postage from the original letter, placed the new letter into the headmaster’s mailbox. He returned the file of records as it was to the headmaster’s office and then waited patiently for his dismissal. On the following day, the headmaster sent for a horse and cart to take Eoin, bringing with him only his rapier, a pen and some paper, and the clothes on his back, to the port town that he arrived at several years prior. On arriving at the town, Eoin took the little money that had been given to him as fare for the ship ride home and converted it to a promissory note at the local bank. Having this document on hand, Eoin proceeded to forge a large sum of money to use at some of the less suspecting shops in the poorer districts in town.

Though sly and opportunistic, Eoin was in fact naïve in the ways of city life, and unaccustomed to the types of inhabitants often found within them. While browsing the bustling bazaar for a likely victim in which to launder his fraudulent sums, he was approached by a young man offering his services as a guide. Eoin estimated the stranger was roughly his age, though smaller in stature and gaunt of face. Presentable looking on first glance, closer inspection revealed the true nature of his low class. The man’s dusty, self-repaired clothing and his inside out collar were tell-tale signs of such things. Still, Eoin was new to the city and reasoned that a guide may be a good idea after all. The man seemed approachable and genuine in his desire to provide his service. “How much for the tour then,” he asked, pulling out his newly forged promissory notes—making sure to keep the real one in his pocket.

“Ah, sorry mate. I’m afraid you won’t be getting far with those in a town like this. Coin has weight, paper’s good for letters home… But let me take a look, I may know a place that will exchange this… though I’m afraid it likely won’t be for it’s true value. All depends on where the notes originate. ” Warily, Eoin surrendered the stack of notes to the guide’s inspection. He was but two feet away—easily within arm’s reach. In the split second the transaction took place, the guide had spun on his heel, and leapt into the busy market crowd. “Right! Great! Follow me then friend, the exchange is just this way!” he called back. Eoin was fast and nimble but he had not expected this stranger to possess these traits as well and he was not used to the confusion of such massive crowds. Eoin aggressively weaved his way as best he could trying to catch up to the escaping thief. “Keep up now! Don’t get lost!” the urchin cackled from within the chaos of moving bodies. It was useless. He was gone and with him the forged bank notes. That night Eoin found himself in a cheap, dirty publick house, paid for with one of the few remaining gold pieces in his coin purse. All was not lost, he thought, and one of his prowess could get back on his feet with some ingenuity. Frustrated but driven to be optimistic of his current position, Eoin drifted into an uneasy sleep. It wasn’t but three hours into the night that he was awoken by a sound. Somebody had cracked his window open. Done with some skill, yes, he thought, but he was not amongst the regular drunks that frequented such dives as these. He was on guard now and would not be so embarrassingly duped again. He could sense the stranger slowly approaching his turned back. Eoin carefully, quietly grasped the hilt of his dagger, stashed beneath his rolled up cloak pillow. A floorboard creaked beneath the intruder’s feet. In a flash, Eoin rose, spun, and grasped the stranger by the collar, held a dagger to his throat, and pinned him to the window sill. They froze. By the light of the moon, he immediately recognized the face. “You!” he hissed. “Back to take what’s left are you? I’m afraid I’m not as easily fooled twice in one day. My money, give it to me!” The so called guide cracked a nervous grin “Ah, I’d be happy to, friend! That’s why I’m back after all.” Eoin eased up on the point of his dagger pressing into the thief’s throat. “See I didn’t lie about that exchange I know. Problem being, when I tried to swap ‘em myself, turns out those notes of yours are as fake as some of the night walkers on the streets ‘neath us. Nearly lost my hand over them, I did.” Eoin let up, allowing the thief his breath. “So now I wonder,” the thief continued, “just how one such as yourself came into possession of these forgeries.” The scoundrel smiled slyly. “They’re recognizably fraudulent by bankers perhaps… but there’re others that will indeed accept them unbeknownst,” he acknowledged with a quick nod. “So where’d you get em’ hmm?” Eoin stood silent, giving it some thought. “I made them,” he replied. “Oh, that’s great news indeed… See, that’s a useful skill if you know where and how to apply it. Seems to me you just need to get your bearings, and I’m just the one to help you find them… Jacopo’s my name.” He stuck out his hand.

“Welcome to town.”
