Valen's Story

The story of Ackaladar, Possiah and the fate of the Ackaladrelle Kingdom, as told by Valen..

It was in the last years of what is now known as the Inter Dimensional Wars. I was young then, and kept away from the front lines of the destruction all around us. This valley was in flames then. News of entire cities being razed to the ground came all too often. Then, as if the carnage around us wasn’t enough to break our will for survival, the Demon Lords commanding the scourge came forward to the leaders of the resisting common folk. They tempted them with wealth and power beyond their imaginings, to turn to them. To betray their people, and forfeit their nobility, for surely resistance was a futile effort. Some succumbed, and many died while The Scourge grew stronger. It was then that my great uncle, Ackallah Ackaladrelle, King of this now destroyed kingdom, sought to infiltrate the Demon ranks in a desperate attempt to murder their Overlord. Ackaladrelle feigned his surrender, and went to them, but they saw through his pretense, took him, tortured him, and twisted him into a malignant abomination of his former self. Ackaladrelle became their warlord, half Elf king half demon, and was himself responsible for the destruction of this Kingdom. But in the midsts of that battle, Ackaladrelle was sought out, and slain. As we few survivors fled the palace, Ackaladrelles body was swept up by the scourge and taken away. His Demons took him, laid him before an altar, and with the perverse assistance of the evil Goddess Veccna, called down and captured the Goddess Wee Jas. They stripped her of her Godliness, drove her to insanity, and embued her spirit into the corpse of Ackaladrelle. He was raised then, as a Lich, renamed Ackaladar, possessing the power of an insane Goddess. Ackaladar led the onslaught on the remaining people of this Valley, decimating thousands in a mere week. In a last desperate effort to destroy him, the 5 most powerful Wizards, Sorcerers and Mages remaining in this valley came before Ackaladar, as he laid to waste a Human bastion in the East. Using all of their arcane might, pushing themselves to the edges of their being, they flung him through the nearby demon Gateway Portal he’d opened.. These dangerous portals are unusual, in that they open to a plane of limbo, and act as a halfway point between two realms of existence. While in these gateway portals, the soul is stripped of body, for no physical matter exists there. No longer bound by the flesh of Ackaladar, Wee Jas fled, regaining her place amongst her Godly brethren, her sanity and power restored. With the weakened Ackaladar stuck within the limbo plane, the 5 Great Wizards quickly put their plan into motion. Sacrificing their own souls, they closed the 2 gateways open to Ackaladar: that which led to our world, and another, believed to open to the fabled land of Mu. With Ackaladar trapped within the limbo plane, the 5 Mages collapsed, their arcane power gone. It was the will of their souls that had closed the gateway, and it was clear that now with the portal closed, they were dying. They had their failing bodies crafted into great keys – the remnants of their lingering souls encased within. But for one of them, A human sorcerer pregnant with child, life lingered long enough for her to give birth to a son. She too passed not long after – her body and remaining soul crafted into a key to match those of her comrades – though I remember it was said that the key that was crafted of her did not seem to possess the aura of the other 4. The Son was sent away from the ongoing destruction in secrecy and orphaned, his fate now forgotten. With their War Lord defeated, and with a vengeful Wee Jas and a bitter Veccna overhead, it was not long before The Scourge ended and the demon hordes were forced to retreat through their portals. Many suspect Divine Intervention at the hands of Pelor, Kord & Heronieous. The survivors of this Valley were finally left broken and torn, their cities and lands decimated beyond reckoning. Of the 5 Mage Keys, it was decided that they should be entrusted to 5 powerful survivors throughout this land. They would be kept hidden and spread out from each other. A portal to the locked Gateway in which Ackaladar was imprisoned was built within the mansion of a powerful Baron. That same Baron was entrusted with one of the keys. Of the other 4, I know not of their fates save for the one below the sea, in Possiah. It was the most powerful of the 5 mages who’s key was hidden there. It was he that finally sealed the Gateway Portal, keeping Ackaladar within. His body and soul was forged to be the master key – and within Possiah, its pedestal was crafted so that in the case of disturbance, the magical sinew that holds it there would tear. I don’t know what repercussion would come of that. Being so young, I was never told… and by the time this had all happened, The Ackaladrelle Kingdom was destroyed, and my family name shamed for the fate of Ackaladar.
